Position: Design / Sr. Design Engineer – Chassis/CAB/Hydraulics

Experience: 4 – 6 years of experience

Location: United Kingdom (UK)

Duration: Full Time

Job Responsibilities:

  • Detailed knowledge of a wide range of mechanical engineering systems.
  • Trucks, Yellow Goods, or related products, with low volumes and high complexity.
  • Liaison with internal and external suppliers.
  • Component design and development from concept to production drawing release.
  • Designing for assembly and for manufacturing processes including welded fabrication, casting, vac forming.
  • DVPR (Design validation plan report) generation.
  • Understanding geometric tolerances in mechanical components, quality processes
  • Demonstrates the ability to optimize quality/cost/timing.
  • Experience of engineering change control documentation. Work to industry and Engineering standards and practices.
  • Concept, design and detailing of systems and components.
  • Teamwork and effective communications.
  • Draughting practices to BS8888 including GDT.
  • Working knowledge of regulations, British Standards and codes of practice relevant to the equipment being designed.
  • Application of FMEA, VE and DFA as appropriate.
  • Make and maintain Project Files with records of design calculations assumptions.
  • Adherence to Company Standards (ISO 9000).
  • Responsible for the management, compliance and upkeep of the quality environmental procedures, records and documents relevant to the role.
  • Ability to design systems and components for heavy truck chassis.
  • Close liaison/concurrent activities with internal/external suppliers/customers including securing.
  • Installation and Application Approvals

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of vehicle regulations standards
  • Detailed knowledge/experience of truck chassis systems including powertrain, hydraulics, braking etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of the design requirements for manufacturing processes
  • Finite element analysis and a good understanding of stress and fatigue, Altair FEA (Inspire/Hypermesh/SimSolid)
  • Understanding of variability and capability
  • Leads team-based design activities such as design reviews, FMEAs and Risk analysis
  • Demonstrable workload/project management skills
  • Solid Edge CAD and Teamcenter

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate (verbally written) at all levels in the business
  • Well-developed problem-solving techniques, 8D, A3
  • Excellent CAD modeling and drawing creation skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Contribute to DFMEA
  • Demonstrable workload/project management skills
